ECLT seeded the foundation of the emergent field of „systems chemistry“ by sponsoring the field’s first workshop at San Servolo as early as 2005. A meeting report was published in ANIE [Ref from attachment]. By now the field has started to flourish. A COST Action on “Systems Chemistry” was started which by now has been signed by 12 European countries. The Memorandum of Understanding to this Action explicitly states: “The Action will strengthen its interaction with the newly founded European Center for Living Technology (ECLT) in Venice which hosted the "systems chemistry workshop" following the midterm evaluation meeting of COST D27.” In 2008 a number of international meetings took place on the subject of “Systems Chemistry”, including the well known Bozen workshop by the Beilstein Institute as well as a COST ESF high level research conference.
