The method may be seen as an extension of molecular dynamics to the mesoscale, differing from Brownian dynamics in that momentum is strictly conserved, but also employing random forces to integrate molecular details.
The mprDPD method itself has been developed in the context of a Systems Biology project Endosys, funded by the German Ministry of Science.
